ESET Endpoint Encryption license migration

The instructions below describe how to migrate a customer with ESET Endpoint Encryption (EEE) products from a workaround ordering process to purchasing via ESET MSP Administrator 2 console.

Before the migration

1.You must have an active ESET MSP Administrator 2 account with EEE ordering enabled. If you do not have one, your ESET Partner or the ESET Office can create it for you if you. If you aren’t familiar with ESET MSP Administrator 2, refer to the overview topic.

2.Identify all licenses that need to be migrated.

3.Contact your ESET representative several days before the planned migration. Provide them with the license key(s) of the to-be-migrated licenses and the exact migration date.

Migration process for EEE Server

1.Create the MSP customer if the customer is not already in ESET MSP Administrator 2.

2.Create an EEE license.

3.After the license is generated in ESET MSP Administrator 2, use the newly created Product ID and Product Key to migrate users.

4.To migrate EEE Server users to the new license, see the step-by-step guide in our Knowledgebase.

note

You can find the Product ID and Product Key in the ESET MSP Administrator 2 web portal. Select Companies > click the customer you want to migrate > Licenses > click the license > select Show license details for activation.

5.After the migration, contact an ESET representative to remove the old license.

note

Following the above process, no decryption or additional encryption will be needed if the MSP uses EEE Server.

Migration process for EEE standalone clients

Before changing the license, you must reset your key-file. Resetting reverts the software to the out-of-the-box state, where you can use a new license. This procedure results in losing access to granular encrypted data, as the encryption keys used for granular encryption features are tied to the key-file. When the key-file is reset, you lose access to your old keys. EEE creates a backup key-file before resetting.

note

Full Disk Encryption is unaffected, as this does not use the key-file for encryption.

1.Create the MSP customer if the customer is not already created in ESET MSP Administrator 2.

2.Create an ESET Endpoint Encryption license.

3.Decrypt all granular encrypted data (files, USB devices, virtual disks, etc.). You do not have to decrypt system disks encrypted by full disk encryption.

4.Reset the key-file.

5.Activate the product using the new license Product ID and Product Key.

6.After migration, contact an ESET representative to remove the old license.
