Set up protection
The following setup is valid only for ESET Business Account users with ESET PROTECT. |
When you log into the Web Console, the Set up your protection wizard appears. You can easily configure specific security settings globally across the whole network without using policies or dynamic groups.
Optionally, you can open the wizard from:
•Quick Links > click Set up protection.
•Computers > click the gear icon next to All in Groups > click Set up protection.
•Policies > click the Protection setup - via protection setup policy > click Set up protection.
•Status Overview > click the ESET components and security products tile > click the Set up protection button.
You need the following access rights to view the Set up your protection wizard: •Read access—All Static Group •Read access—Policies You need the following access rights to edit the Set up your protection wizard: ESET security product for Windows part: •Use access—All Static Group •Write access—Policies If you do not have the required access rights, the ESET security product for Windows part is disabled. ESET LiveGuard part: •Use access—All Static Group •Use access—Licenses •Write access—Product Activation Client Task If you do not have the required access rights, the ESET LiveGuard part is disabled. When your ESET LiveGuard Advanced license expires, your settings for automatic deployment are stored but will not be displayed. When you renew your license, your settings are enabled and displayed again. |
The wizard prompts you to increase the security level for devices connected to ESET PROTECT.
ESET security product
1.Enable Lock security settings with a password to create a password that prevents end users from changing the policies on connected devices.
The setting is supported on: •ESET Endpoint Security for Windows 7.0 and later •ESET Server Security for Microsoft Windows Server, ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server •ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server •ESET Mail Security for IBM Domino •ESET Security for Microsoft SharePoint Server |
2.Type a password with a minimum of eight characters into Password.
The password you create is automatically applied to all your connected devices. If you forget the password, you can overwrite it with a new one from ESET PROTECT, but you cannot recover the previous password. |
3.Enable Automatically resolve problems to allow the connected devices restart automatically, which is required after updating an ESET security product.
If an end user or administrator does not resolve the restart manually until the set time interval, the device restarts automatically.
The setting is supported on ESET Endpoint Security for Windows 9.1 and later. It is not available for server products. |
4. Select a time interval for the automatic restart from the drop-down menu:
•Cannot postpone
•After 1–5 hours
•After 1–30 days
5.Enable Always install ESET security product on existing and new devices to install and activate an ESET security product on connected devices where an ESET security product is not installed. The client task Automatic installation of an ESET security product is automatically created.
The setting is supported on ESET Endpoint Security for Windows. |
6.Enable Always activate ESET security product on existing devices to activate the ESET security product on connected devices where an ESET security product is installed but not activated. The client task Automatic activation of an ESET security product is automatically created.
The setting is supported on all operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux). |
ESET LiveGuard
1.Enable Always enable ESET LiveGuard on existing and new devices to enable automatic deployment of ESET LiveGuard Advanced on existing and newly connected devices with a compatible ESET security product installed.
We recommend selecting Optimal protection to assign new policies with maximum protection. You can also change your selection in the ESET LiveGuard Advanced section in ESET Solutions. |
2.Click Apply now to apply security settings.
You can view the settings in Policies > Protection setup - via protection setup. You cannot edit or delete these policies, but you can change their assignment (by default, they are assigned to the All Static Group).
Disable settings
You can disable the settings with the toggle .
If you disable Lock security settings with a password, it will overwrite the current password policies on your connected devices. If those devices's security settings were password protected, the password is no longer required.
