Edit groups and workstation policies

important

Define user and workstation team policies before you deploy ESET Endpoint Encryption.

Group Policy and Workstation Policy affect the ESET Endpoint Encryption User and Workstation permissions.

Group Policy and Workstation Policy are in effect during logging in and out of the ESET Endpoint Encryption Key-File.

Group Policy

important

Group Policy takes effect when an activated user logs in to their Key-File. Generally, these settings are used to grant extra rights or features to the users overriding any restrictions set by the Workstation Policy.

By arranging users within teams in the ESET Endpoint Encryption Server you can apply different Group Policy settings to different teams of users, enabling extra capabilities for specific teams of users.

Group policy controls how ESET Endpoint Encryption functions and appears to the users, the menus and controls they can access and the software environment while users are logged into ESET Endpoint Encryption. Group policy is defined within the teams below the Users branch in the main view.

Define Group Policy

1.Select the Users branch in the navigation panel and click the Group Policy tab.

note

Group Policies can be different for each level of an organization, with each subset inheriting the settings of the level above.

2.Click Details to see additional details of each policy setting.

Change Group Policy

1.Highlight the setting in the policy list and click Change Setting in the menu bar or double-click the highlighted settings.

The Group Policy window displays a drop-down menu for the permitted settings and a brief description of the setting function.

2.Select the response you want or define the text required and click OK to save the new setting.

note

Changes to group policy are not automatically distributed to users.

Modify Group Policy

1.Select the Users branch or user sub-team of the navigation tree.

2.Select the Group Policy tab.

3.Select the policy setting you want to modify in the Group Policy list.

4.Click Change Setting.

5.Select Configured password policy option.

6.Set the appropriate configuration setting from the drop-down menu.

7.Click OK.

8.Repeat the procedure for any other policies you want to update.

The change will affect users whose activation codes are generated from this point on.

note

Modifications to the group policy are inherited by teams below the team you modify.

Update existing users

1.Click the Users tab.

Previously activated users affected by the change now have a red icon, and their status will be listed as User requires an updated Key-File.

note

User status will be listed as User requires an updated Key-File if you modify the encryption keys they are assigned.

2.From the Users list, select the user(s) with red icons you want to update.

3.Click Post Key-File.

4.In the Post Key-File window, click Post.

The update will process automatically, and the user icon will change to green.

Workstation Policy

important

Workstation Policy takes effect when the current Windows user is not activated against the ESET Endpoint Encryption Server or they are not currently logged in to the ESET Endpoint Encryption.

Installing a client install package obtained from the ESET Endpoint Encryption Server will enforce the Workstation Policy from the ESET Endpoint Encryption Server chosen at the time it was downloaded.

Workstation Policy is the baseline of rights and includes settings for how the software will appear and behave.

Workstation Policy controls how ESET Endpoint Encryption Server, user and workstation can interact with encryption and interfaces with external data sources; the physical environment of the workstation. The policy applies when the user is not logged into ESET Endpoint Encryption or is not yet activated on the workstation. Group policy may override some settings in Workstation policy when the user activated ESET Endpoint Encryption. Workstation Policy is defined within the teams below the Workstations branch in the main view.

Define Workstation Policy

1.Create a new team under the Workstations branch.

Modifying the policy in this team will not affect any other teams that do not inherit their policy from this team.

2.Select the team in the navigation panel and click the Workstation Policy tab.

You can edit any setting and download a registry file if you want to adopt a standalone workstation or update an old client.

note

Changes to workstation policy are not automatically distributed to workstations.

Modify Workstation Policy

1.Select Workstations from the control panel.

2.Click Workstation Policy.

3.Select the policy setting you want to modify and click Change Setting.

4.Modify the setting as required.

5.Click OK.

Apply the Workstation Policy to the Workstations

When you modify the Workstation Policy, currently activated machines affected by the modification will now have a red icon. Status displays Requires policy update, which indicates that the workstation policy is outdated and needs an update with the changes you made.

Update these Workstations with the new policy:

1.Select the workstation in the Workstations list.

2.Click Update Policy.

The icon changes to orange, indicating the new policy has been sent. When the new policy is received, the workstation icon changes to blue and the status to Normal.

note

Only machines activated by a user will appear in the Workstations list to be updated in this way.
