Scan

Click Scan in the main program window to perform file and folder scans on your computer.

The On-demand scanner is an important part of your antivirus solution and is used to perform file and folder scans on your computer. From a security standpoint, it is essential that computer scans are performed regularly as part of routine security measures, not only when an infection is suspected.

We recommend performing regular in-depth scans of your system to detect viruses not captured by Real-time file system protection. This can occur if a threat is introduced when Real-time file system protection is disabled, the detection engine is out of date, or if a threat was not detected when it was saved to the disk.

This option allows you to select a suspiciously behaving file found on your computer or a suspicious site found online, and send it to the ESET Research Lab for analysis.

Click Send to specify the file you want to send for analysis. First, you choose a reason for submission, and then select the file. You can manually drag-and-drop the file or folder by clicking the file or folder, moving the mouse pointer to the marked area while pressing the mouse button, and then releasing it. There is an option to include your email, which allows us to contact you in case we need more information. You do not have to include your email if you enable the Submit anonymously toggle.

The sample you submit must meet at least one of the following criteria:

The sample is not detected by your ESET product

The sample is incorrectly detected as a threat

Clicking Next takes you to the last step, where you provide additional information about the sample file, such as observed signs or symptoms of malware infection and file origin. Providing additional information will help our laboratories identify and process samples.

note

ESET does not accept your personal files (that you would like to scan for malware) as samples. The ESET Research Lab does not perform On-demand scans for users.
