Infostealer

Infostealer steals sensitive user data but does not try to spy on the user, for example, through the device's camera, but may contain a keylogger function.

What are infostealers?

Infostealers are malicious spy software (spyware) whose main role is to steal personal and sensitive information from the victim's device. This information may include bank details or login details for online accounts. A password stealer is an info stealer that focuses specifically on passwords.

How do you recognize the presence of an infostealer?

Infostealers are designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. They are often spread through emails or websites that look trustworthy but simultaneously try to create a sense of urgency in the user to open an infected attachment or link that will trigger the installation of malicious code. Once the infostealer gets into the system, it starts collecting information and sends it back to the attackers.

Information obtained by an infostealer can be used for a variety of malicious purposes, such as identity theft, credit card fraud, or even blackmail. Infostealers are one of the most dangerous types of malware because they can steal huge amounts of sensitive information without the user realizing their privacy has been compromised.

How to protect yourself?

A high-quality security program and vigilance when opening e-mails and clicking on unknown website links will protect against infostealers.
