Where is 2FA applicable

ESA adds 2FA protection only to the web-based interface of Outlook Web Access. Login to Microsoft Outlook and similar email clients cannot be protected by ESA, due to the nature of their protocol, also known as RPC over HTTPS. We recommend not to expose such email clients to external access. See how to control access to Exchange Web Services.
