ThreatSense parameters

ThreatSense is a technology that employs a variety of complex methods for threat detection. It is proactive, protecting your system during the early spread of a new threat. This technology integrates code analysis, code emulation, generic signatures, and virus signatures, significantly enhancing system security. The scanning engine can simultaneously check multiple data streams, maximizing efficiency and detection rates. Additionally, ThreatSense technology can successfully eliminate rootkits.

note

For details about automatic startup file check, see Startup scan.

You will find several ESET Server Security modules utilizing ThreatSense technology. Various security scenarios may require different configurations. Therefore, you can configure ThreatSense individually for the following protection modules:

Hyper-V scan

OneDrive scan

Real-time file system protection

Device scan

Idle-state scan

Startup scan

Document protection

Mailbox protection

Web access protection

The ThreatSense parameters are finely tuned for each module; altering them can impact system performance. For instance, adjusting the settings always to scan runtime packers or enabling Advanced heuristics in the Real-time File System Protection module may slow the system down, as these methods typically scan only newly created files. We recommend keeping the default ThreatSense parameters unchanged for all modules except for the Computer Scan.
