Error when you want to encrypt a network folder with ESET Endpoint Encryption (5.1.x)
The error message This is a network folder and cannot be encrypted using ESET Endpoint Encryption displays when you want to encrypt a network folder.
Solution
Only local users can access the folder through local paths, providing they are logged in to ESET Endpoint Encryption and have the correct encryption key. |
Encrypted files and encrypted archives
You can store encrypted containers inside a network folder, such as encrypted files and archives. These folders need to have data encrypted out of them to access the contents.
Virtual Disks
You can use the encrypted Virtual Disk from network storage depending on requirements. These containers are mounted data accessed directly without requiring manual decryption first. The limitation of a Virtual Disk in shared environments is that only the first user to mount the Virtual Disk gets read/write access, and subsequent users get read access until all users have unmounted the disk.
In all cases, only the users with the appropriate encryption key will be able to gain access to the encrypted data so that it can act as a second access control layer.
