Submit a sample for analysis

In the main application window, select Scan in the left menu and click the arrow icon arrow_icon to show the Submit a Sample option.

This option allows you to select a suspiciously behaving file found on your computer or a suspicious site found online and send it to the ESET Research Lab for analysis.

important

Before submitting samples to ESET

The sample you submit must meet at least one of the following criteria:

The sample is not detected by your ESET product

The sample is incorrectly detected as a threat

The sample is not a personal file; ESET does not accept your personal files (that you would like ESET to scan for malware) as samples and the ESET Research Lab does not perform on-demand scans for users

Click Send to specify the file you want to send for analysis. In the Submit sample for analysis form, specify the following:

Reason for submission—select from the context menu

Sample—specify the path to the file you intend to submit, or drag-and-drop the file to the marked area

Contact—provide contact information for us to contact you in case we need more information about the file; you can omit including your email by enabling the toggle Submit anonymously

Clicking Next takes you to the last step, where you provide additional information about the sample file, such as observed signs or symptoms of malware infection and file origin. Providing additional information will significantly help our laboratories identify and process samples.

note

You may not get a response from ESET

You will not get a response from ESET unless more information is required from you. Our servers receive thousands of files daily, making it impossible to reply to all submissions.

If the sample proves to be a malicious application or website, its detection will be added to an upcoming ESET product update.
