Policy FAQ

How is policy inheritance and priority handled? For example, what if I have a global policy and additional policies with custom settings for specific locations or clients?

Policy application and inheritance takes place from most broad to most specific—Clients > Locations > Groups. As policies are applied, conflicts are resolved in alphabetical order.

Computers in your plugin are assigned policies with the following information:
Client—ABC Corp.
Location—Contoso
Group—1
The first policy, Client—ABC Corp., is applied.
The second policy, Location—Contoso, is applied and overwrites any conflicting settings from the first policy (Client—ABC Corp.).
The final policy, Group—1, is applied and overwrites any conflicting settings from the previously applied policies (Location—Contoso and Client—ABC Corp.).
During this process, lists within each policy will be added to or replaced entirely.

 

What policy(ies) are endpoints assigned after initial installation of ESET Direct Endpoint Management plugin for ConnectWise Automate?

The plugin does not modify any computer policy settings until a policy is created (or imported) and assigned to a group, site or location.
 

How can I migrate to the ESET Direct Endpoint Management plugin for ConnectWise Automate without recreating all of my policies?

In version 1.1.x of the ESET Direct Endpoint Management plugin for ConnectWise Automate, a Migration Assistant feature was added that allows for bulk import of policies from ESET Remote Administrator (ERA) or ERA plugin for ConnectWise Automate.
 

How long does it take for a newly added computer to get its ESET Policy?

If there is ESET software installed on the newly added computer, and the policy exists within the group/client/location, it is usually assigned within few minutes. However, it takes up to 2 hours to apply a new, never-before-used policy. To speed up this process, right-click the newly added computer in the Computers menu and select Resend Policy.
 

What happens to computers when their policy has been deleted?

The computer will retain all previous settings from the deleted policy until a new policy is applied that specifically changes the behavior of the software.
 

What happens when a computer's group(s) are changed or is moved into a new group?

If the new group contains ESET policies, the policies from the new group will take effect. If the device is moved out of all groups with ESET policies, the ESET software will retain its previous settings until a new policy is assigned to it.
 

When would I click "Copy Policy"?

Create a base policy, and then click Copy Policy to make minor adjustments to each subsequent policy.
 

How can I tell if a policy was applied successfully?

Details are added to the applicable event in the Event Log.
