RDP

RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) is a network protocol that enables remote access and control of a computer. It can thus be used for remote management of user devices, but hackers can also misuse it.

How does RDP work?

An RDP connection usually consists of two parts: the server and the client. The RDP server can be the computer or server you connect to and control. The client is a computer or mobile device with an installed RDP app from which you control the server.

RDP Security Risks

Any RDP solution is open to abuse. The default RDP port 3389 is notorious for this and is regularly scanned for exploits. If you need remote desktop access over the internet, use your virtual private network (VPN) or Remote Desktop Gateway to provide a secure and encrypted connection to the server.

In addition, establish remote connections only with people and organizations you know well. Cybercriminals who attack using social engineering methods also often use remote desktop connection tools to take control of your accounts or trick you into revealing your personal information or confirming financial transactions.
