Log filtering
The log filtering feature helps you find information, especially when you have many records. You can narrow down log records when you search for a specific event type, status, or time period.
Specify search options to filter log records. The Log files window displays only the records relevant to those options.
You can filter log records by specifying certain search options, only records that are relevant (according to those search options) will be displayed in the Log files window.
Type the keyword in the Find text field. Use the Search in columns drop-down menu to refine your search. Select one or more records from the Record log types drop-down menu. Define the Time period for results. You can also use further search options, such as Match whole words only, Case sensitive or Not containing.
Find text
Type a string (word or part of a word). The system will only display records containing this string and omit others.
Search in columns
Select the columns to include in your search. You may check one or more options: Time, Type, Description, Source, User, User SID, or User Principal Name.
Record types
Select one or more log record types:
•Diagnostic—Logs information needed to fine-tune the program and all records above.
•Informative—Records general messages, including successful updates, in addition to all higher-level records.
•Warnings—Records critical errors and warning messages.
•Errors—Records critical errors, such as "Error downloading file."
•Critical—Logs only critical errors.
Time period
Specify the time period for displaying results:
•Not specified (default)—Searches the entire log without filtering by time period.
•Last day
•Last week
•Last month
•Time period—Specify From and To dates to filter records for a set period.
Match whole words only
Use the check box if you want to search whole words for more precise results.
Case sensitive
Enable this option to make filtering case sensitive. When you set your filter or search options, click OK to display filtered log records or click Find to begin searching.
The log files are searched from top to bottom, starting from your current position (the highlighted record). The search stops at the first matching record. Press F3 to find the next record, or right-click and select Find to adjust your search options.
Not containing
Use the check box if you want to search for records that do not contain a specific string.
