On-Demand & Machine Learning Protection
Use real-time protection settings
When enabled, default values are used for protection/reporting.
Malware Detections (powered by machine learning)
Malware is any malicious software that can damage your device, compromise your files and put your personal identity at risk. The most common forms of malware include Trojan horses, viruses, worms, ransomware and banking malware. Malware detection is performed by the detection engine module in combination with the machine learning component.
Reporting (Aggressive, Balanced, Cautious or Off)
The selected threshold for malware reporting performed with the detection engine, including the machine learning component. It is possible to set a higher reporting threshold than the current protection threshold. When malware is detected, information is recorded to the Detections log, and desktop notifications occur if configured in the application. These settings do not influence blocking, cleaning or deleting objects.
Protection (Aggressive, Balanced, Cautious or Off)
The selected threshold for malware protection. If an object classified as malware is reported, the program blocks the object and then cleans, deletes or moves it to quarantine.
Potentially Unwanted Applications
A Potentially Unwanted Application is a software whose intent is not as unequivocally malicious, however it may install additional unwanted software, change the behavior of the digital device, perform activities not approved or expected by the user or have other unclear objectives.
This category includes: advertising display software, download wrappers, various browser toolbars, software with misleading behavior, bundleware, trackware, etc.
Reporting (Aggressive, Balanced, Cautious or Off)
The selected reporting threshold for potentially unwanted applications is performed with the detection engine, including the machine learning component. It is possible to set a higher reporting threshold than the current protection threshold. When potentially unwanted applications are detected, information is recorded to the Detections log, and desktop notifications occur if configured in the ESET application. These settings do not influence blocking, cleaning or deleting objects.
Protection (Aggressive, Balanced, Cautious or Off)
The selected protection threshold for potentially unwanted applications. If an object classified as a potentially unwanted application is reported, the ESET application blocks the object and then cleans, deletes or moves it to quarantine.
Suspicious Applications
A Suspicious Application is a software compressed with packers or protectors frequently used to deter reverse engineering or to obfuscate the content of the executable (for example, to hide the presence of malware) by proprietary methods of compression and/ or encryption.
This category includes: all unknown applications which are compressed with packer or protector frequently used to compress malware.
Reporting (Aggressive, Balanced, Cautious or Off)
The selected reporting threshold for suspicious applications is performed with the detection engine, including the machine learning component. It is possible to set a higher reporting threshold than the current protection threshold. When suspicious applications are detected, information is recorded to the Detections log, and desktop notifications occur if configured in the ESET application. These settings do not influence blocking, cleaning or deleting objects.
Protection (Aggressive, Balanced, Cautious or Off)
The selected protection threshold for suspicious applications. If an object classified as a suspicious application is reported, the ESET application blocks the object and then cleans, deletes or moves it to quarantine.
Potentially Unsafe Applications
A Potentially Unsafe Application is the classification used for commercial, legitimate software which might be misused for malicious purposes.
This category includes: cracking tools, license key generators, hacking tools, product key finders, remote access or control tools, password-cracking applications, keyloggers etc.
Reporting (Aggressive, Balanced, Cautious or Off)
The selected reporting threshold for potentially unsafe applications is performed with the detection engine, including the machine learning component. It is possible to set a higher reporting threshold than the current protection threshold. When potentially unsafe applications are detected, information is recorded to the Detections log, and desktop notifications occur if configured in the ESET application. These settings do not influence blocking, cleaning or deleting objects.
Protection (Aggressive, Balanced, Cautious or Off)
The selected protection threshold for potentially unsafe applications. If an object classified as a potentially unsafe application is reported, the ESET application blocks the object and then cleans, deletes or moves it to quarantine.
